New Jersey is the land of innovation and invention.  With a diverse natural environment from the mountains to the shoreline, New Jersey is also home to millions of people and thousands of species of wildlife.

You may write one of the following articles. Select a topic that you find interesting and that may not be commonly known to other 4th graders.  In addition to the facts, see if you can’t find a way to surprise your readers.  Be sure to tell them why this topic is important to New Jersey.

  • One article, 150-250 words, about a famous scientist or inventor who lived or worked here in New Jersey and the contribution he or she made to NJ and the world. Tell your readers how they helped solve a problem or made life easier for people in their daily lives.
  • One article, 150-250 words, about a group or organization that is working to help NJ’s environment stay safe, healthy and beautiful and what they do to help people learn about environmental issues. Include where they are located, how they got started and what makes them important to New Jersey.
  • One article, 150-250 words, about a business or group in NJ who is using technology to help New Jersey and the world to reduce pollution and create sustainable energy solutions. Tell your readers about the business and why they decided to take action to help the environment.
  • One article, 150-250 words, about an animal, reptile or amphibian that calls New Jersey home, and how it is important to our ecology.

Use correct grammar, punctuation and capitalization.  Use Times New Roman or Arial size 12 font.  Be sure to save your work and name each document file as instructed by your teacher.  You may attach one photo when you submit your article.
