Colonial & Revolutionary Times
- First log houses in North America (the last remaining log home built by Swedish settlers c.1638-1643).
- First state to ratify the U.S. Bill of Rights, enumerating our individual freedoms (Nov.,1789).
- Trenton (in 1784 and 1799) and Princeton (in 1783) served briefly as capitals of the United States.
- New Jersey was the “Crossroads of the American Revolution,” with more military engagements, encampments, and headquarters than any other colony (and the most impact on the civilian population), affecting almost every town in New Jersey, including the pivotal activities at Trenton (1776), Princeton (1777), Monmouth and Morristown (1778).
- “E pluribus unum” (Latin meaning, “out of many, one”) first appeared on a New Jersey coin (c.1780's).
- Establishment of the nation's first National Historic Park, Washington's Headquarters at the Ford Mansion (Morristown, Morris Co., 1933).
